With determination and drive, on November 29, 2000, the New Generation Fancy Drill Team and Performance Arts Ensemble was incorporated, and received its 501(c)(3) and continued to broaden its scope of service by expanding city-wide and providing service to inner-city youth throughout the City of Chicago. Since its establishment, hundreds of youth and young adults throughout the City of Chicago have benefited from the program.
James Crafton, Founder and Executive Director, established the youth performance organization that has an opportunity to provide a non-traditional, recreational, educational, and cultural experience to public housing and inner-city youth. The drill team serves as a juvenile delinquency prevention program that is designed to increase the participants' awareness of themselves and their environment, making them more resistant to anti-social behavior. |
In 2001, Mr. Crafton implemented his dream within the Chicago Public School System and now operates an after-school program for several schools. The program provides year-round after-school and out-of-school recreational, educational, mentoring, and tutoring programming to youth participants. Bringing a dream to reality, Mr. Crafton has provided an opportunity for many participating youths to travel to other cities and states across the U.S., including Las Vegas, Nevada • Buckhannon, West Virginia • Denver, Colorado • Utah • Atlanta, Georgia • William, Pennsylvania • Lincoln, Nebraska • Kentucky • Tennessee • Ohio and Columbia/Hannibal/Kansas City, Missouri • Wisconsin Dells and other surrounding cities within the Wisconsin border. Lastly, the drill team has appeared in such diverse functions as business gatherings, picnics, block parties, family reunions, and various anniversary celebrations.
